Surviving Summer

From Judy Hedding, your Guide to Phoenix
Remember when we were young and so loved getting real mail? My residential real estate tax bill arrived. That's just about as exciting as the insurance bill, HOA bill and timeshare maintenance bill. Some people think that our property taxes are high, and I have no idea where they get that information. Actually, Maricopa County has one of the lowest property tax rates in the country when compared to other large metro areas.

Oktoberfest!
For many people in the U.S. Oktoberfest is simply the time of year when we indulge in German beer, brats and dance the polka even if they look silly. You'll find Oktoberfest celebrations in the East Valley, West Valley, Scottsdale, Central Phoenix, North Phoenix and even on a train. My guess is that most of us probably aren't more than 30 minutes away from some Oktoberfest gathering! Find local Oktoberfest celebrations.

Property Taxes Due
Due October 1, and considered delinquent if received after November 1st. Most people have a mortgage company that collects a little bit each month (included in your mortgage payment) and that company gets the bill and pays the tax. Make sure you see that payment on your mortgage statement, or check online to make sure it was paid. How our property taxes work.

Smithsonian Museum Day - Saturday!

  • These will cost you something: tribute to ABBA, tribute to Boston and Styx, dogs in the park, Charlie Brown, star gazing, tribute to The Cars and a fashion event. Get the details.
