Stussy x Yo! MTV Raps – 25th Anniversary Collection | Available Now Posted: 09 Aug 2013 08:57 PM PDT For the budding rock n’ roll culture of the 1950s, there was the Dick Clark and American Bandstand. When an influx of new R&B and soul acts came about during the 1970s, Don Cornelius anticipated it with Soul Train. Then there was Yo! MTV Raps, one of first television show devoted fully to rap and hip-hop. Created by the late Ted Demme and Peter Dougherty, with hosting duties by Doctor Dre, Ed Lover, and Fab 5 Freddy, the show didn’t just entertain but “school” most of the world on hip-hop culture. In its seven-year run during the golden era of hip-hop, which started on August 6th, 1988 to August 17th, 1995, the show helped to secure many hip-hop upstarts a place in music history. Some of which are on the new Stussy x Yo! MTV Raps collaboration for 2013 seen here. In celebrating the show’s 25th anniversary, Stussy turned to Yo! MTV Raps‘ archive and located original graphics of artists Ice T, De La Soul, Gang Starr, Slick Rick, Digital Underground, Queen Latifah, Brand Nubian, Eric B. & Rakim and MC Lyte. Each was then screen-printed on classic 100% soft cotton crewneck tee in either black or white. The original Yo! MTV Raps tag, along with some Stussy signature styling, were added to complete design. Ten designs in all, available now through Stussy Chapter Stores, www.stussy.com online stores for both US and Europe.

DRx Romanelli x CONVERSE First String Chuck Taylor All Star Hi – “1970s Boro” | Available Now Posted: 09 Aug 2013 07:11 PM PDT Known by his penchant for details and the uncanny ability to dig up long forgotten history, Darren Romanelli, commonly known to many as Dr. Romanelli, recently took an interest in 1970s’ designs by CONVERSE. After securing a limited number of retro CONVERSE Chuck Taylor All Star Hi, all with 1970s details such as vintage heel tag and woven cotton laces, Romanelli then scoured all the known resources he had for something called “boro” to complement the design. Literally means “rags” in Japanese, boro features some of the most distinctive indigo colors. And since each is loomed by hand, every single batch is unique. But to further his quest for authenticity, Romanelli sought out vintage boro fabrics, all circa 1970s. And in reference to boro’s special quality, each patchwork on the CONVERSE Chuck Taylor All Star was handmade, ensuring not one pair would be the same. Including other vintage details like a burlap lined insole, the DRx Romanelli x CONVERSE First String Chuck Taylor All Star Hi is now available through retailers with CONVERSE First String account, such as HAVEN of Canada.

Linkin Park x A BATHING APE – Summer Sonic 2013 T-Shirt Collection Posted: 09 Aug 2013 06:00 PM PDT Ahead of its appearances at Japan’s Summer Sonic 2013 music festival in Tokyo and Osaka this weekend, progressive rock band Linkin Park visited A BATHING APE‘s BAPE STORE in Shibuya for a meet-&-greet event. With 100 or so lucky fans in their midst, band members Rob Bourdon, Brad Delson, Dave Farrell, along with Joe Hahn, lead singers Mike Shinoda and Chester Bennington took the opportunity to unveil the Linkin Park x A BATHING APE – T-Shirt Collection. Already big fans of the A BATHING APE label, Linkin Park decided on a pair of designs featuring both brand’s insignias in BAPE 1st Camo Pattern as well as bold lettering of “LINKIN PARK A BATHING APE,” on either white or black t-shirts. On the fun side of things, BAPE also created a caricature graphic tee with the six Linkin Park members, all in the likeness of BAPE’s mascot, Baby Milo. Retails for ¥7,140 JPY ($74 USD) each, this limited edition series is available through BAPE STORE Shibuya now and all other BAPE STORE across Japan starting on Saturday, August 10th. No words yet, however, on the collection’s launch outside of Japan. BAPE STORE Shibuya

Vans Vault Authentic LX – “Aloha Chambray” Posted: 09 Aug 2013 05:30 PM PDT We love chambray work shirts, but the versatile fabric — think of it as denim’s lightweight cousin — is equally at home on pair of Vans Authentics. This particular pair is accented with fashion forward Vault touches, including a subtle pinstripe and all-over Hawaiian floral motif, executed in white against a neutral blue-grey chambray base. Vibrant pops of color come courtesy of pink accenting along the lining and outsole — as well as the Vans logo tab — while stark white rubber foxing maintains the classic Vans look. Check out detailed images below, and find the Vans Vault Authentic LX “Aloha Chambray” in stock now at Titolo.

Cole Haan LunarGrand “Burnout” by Revive Customs Posted: 09 Aug 2013 04:00 PM PDT Based out of Brooklyn, New York, Revive Customs steps into a new lane with their latest custom project, foregoing the typical sneaker-based design for a retooled Cole Haan LunarGrand. The Lunarlon equipped longwing brogue is finished in a sunburst paint job that mimics the body of a classic Gibson electric guitar, while a wood grain finish on the eyelets and heel panel take inspiration from the fretboard. Silver laces, finally, are the obvious stand-in for the strings. See detailed looks below, and head over to Revive Customs’ site to check out more of their skillful handiwork.
