| The Center for Holographic Arts – “Interference: Coexistence” Exhibit Posted: 16 Sep 2013 05:30 PM PDT Ever since a visual recording of Princess Leia beamed from R2-D2‘s robotic machinery, we’ve always harbored a secret fetish for the holographic arts. And after years of empty promises and being referred to as “the wave of the future”, holograms finally proved their worth at the 2012 Coachella Music Festival when Tupac Shakur posthumously performed with Snoop Thankfully we don’t have to wait ’till another life-after-death cameo to check out some light-manipulated, randomly accessed memories because The Center for the Holographic Arts (aka “The Holocenter”) has just set up an exhibition in a previously vacant bank building on Long Island. Entitled “Interference:Coexistence“, the show will feature the works of hologram artists from around the world, including some pieces from the 70s and 80s. “These are some seminal pieces [created] from some of the masters in the field,” said Holocenter director Dr. Martina Mrongovius. “[They are images] that are essentially a sculpture of light.” The exhibition is set to run for one month and following the show, the Holocenter plans to be headquartered out of the building’s basement for a year’s duration. Special events are expected to transpire throughout the month, such as an experimental music night on September 21st, so stay tuned– or in this case, don’t blink. Center for the Holographic Arts Exhibition Dates: Now – September 28th, 2013 (Saturday) | 2 pm – 6 pm
